DatamedFT is the newest generation in a long line of DATAMED Receivers, Transmitters and EKG Format Translators. Since 1970, DATAMED devices have bridged the compatibility gap between various manufacturers&qout; methods and protocols of transmitting EKG data between proprietary acquisition devices and their respective data gathering storage and retrieval “”host”” systems.
Functioning like a language interpreter, DatamedFT translates the EKG data from the language of one manufacturer to the language of another, so that medical facilities can purchase the most appropriate cardiographs, monitors, and EKG management systems from differing manufacturers. DatamedFT allows for purchasing flexibility and extended equipment life.
While previous Datamed translators have been hardware devices, DatamedFT is a highly specialized software application that may be installed on the EKG Management system&qout;s host PC, a monitoring gateway, an enterprise application server, or a stand alone PC (“”FT-PC””) and connected to the source and destination device via network. The manner of installation, method of connection, and exact configuration largely depend on the vendor and the desires of the customer&qout;s IT/IS staff. DatamedFT is an IT/IS application that is user-installed and user-supported with our assistance via email and/or telephone. Once installed, DatamedFT is a completely transparent interface in normal use, and will run on Windows XP Professional SP2 & SP3, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 2003 Server, and Windows 2008 Server. DatamedFT runs as a service level application and receives EKG data from the source EKG machine, Bedside Monitor, or other acquisition device as computer data files in that device&qout;s native data format. The file-based application combined with our optional DatamedRcv Receiver Modules can receive the EKG Data files over LAN, WAN, serial, or modem connections. The EKG file containing waveform data along with header data, patient demographics, measurements, and interpretive statements is then translated into the target host system&qout;s native format and transmitted as another data file over the hospital network to the target host system. Translated EKGs are seen and handled by the host system as if they had originated on their own proprietary devices, and may be stored, recalled, edited, and printed just as any other EKGs in the host system. DatamedFT has over twenty different input formats and twenty different output formats, resulting in over four hundred possible combinations. New formats are added on an ongoing basis.
For customers that have a variety of cardiographs and other acquisition devices, DatamedFT can be configured to handle any number of available input formats on a single computer. For example, it can be receiving and translating EKGs from HP/Philips XLi cardiographs, while at the same time it is receiving and translating EKGs from GE/Marquette cardiographs.
Utilizing Datamed EKG Format Translators allows medical institutions to purchase best-of-breed equipment to suit each department, and/or continue to use older (yet dependable) acquisition equipment on newer EKG Management systems, providing data compatibility across vendor lines. The proven reliability of DatamedFT enables some vendors to use it as the entire EKG “”front end”” of their systems.
